🌐A Little Help with WordPress🌐

A Local Entrepreneur needed a little website help with starting a new website.
After chatting about options for hosting and domain names, etc., she got stuck in & set up her own website!

A few days later, she got back in touch for some help with a few things.

First off was finalising the server & domain name settings via her chosen hosts 123.Reg.
Which can be a little confusing if you are new to this.

Then it was some tweaks to the main page alignment & sorting an image size issue on the “About” page.

Next was sorting out the formatting on the “Event Prop Hire”, as it was displaying some random text & images from a theme.
The best way to sort this kind of stuff out is to start with a blank page, without any “sample” content, and start building columns etc.
That way it displays nicely on any device, and is a lot easier to manage for a newbie!

Finally it was time to sort out the “Contact” page & form.
One of my personal Fav’s is “Contact Form 7”, as it’s pretty straightforward to get on with, and just works.

Weddings, Windows, Cloning and Website changes

An image of some wedding order of service cards in a chest with flowers on the forest floor

First job on the card’s today are some really pretty Wedding ‘Order of Service’ Cards. The Client had done a great job of designing it in CANVA , so it was straightforward enough to get it done quickly and efficiently as ever!

Then it was time to delve into it sickly Acer 💻 that’s refusing to boot up. This turned out to be an incompatibility with the windows 11 upgrade. One nice clean windows 10 later, and its back with the client.

Next up ,it’s cloning of a client’s pc onto a larger SSD. After some initial grumpiness from the original windows installation, everything went reasonably smoothly, Phew!

Last job, for this RATHER long day is the strip down & rebuild of a WordPress site. They have been having problems with the plug-ins used to build the original site, so I advised a fresh start by removing pretty much all of the software and setting it up from scratch.

Website Glitches, MS “Teams” & Boxing

Friday morning & we are off to a flying start on some repairs to a client’s website.
It’s an E-Commerce Website that has not been sending emails correctly for a couple of day’s, which can be a pain!
After some input from Microsoft Office 365 Team (which wasn’t really helpful), checking all the plug-in’s, nothing seemed out of place. However, it has now just started working again ?!?!
And now there’s an update available for the Website Mail Plug-in…..
Look’s like they have found an error and sorted it on the quiet.

Next up is a client who’s having issues with Microsoft Teams & Zoom meetings.
He’s also had a bit of malware playing with his drivers for the microphone on his laptop, making things worse.
After a quick clean-up of the malware & installing the proper “Teams” & “Zoom” app’s, instead of using his browser, thing’s started to work correctly.

Then it’s some laminated A3 & A4 posters for the Newtown Amateur Boxing Club.

Another client drops in with more problems on MS Teams…….. Hmm, Beginning to smell a rat here!
Re-installing “Teams” does the trick again. Methinks Microsoft have been having a few bad day’s of late.

Website Updates

A client has been having problems with the PayPal Payment System on his website. It’s not been sending his customers contact number, which can cause problems with deliveries etc. These issues prompted some necessary Website Updates to improve the site’s functionality.

After little to no help from PayPal (Grrrrr), we found out that it was a problem with the payment software, it was a matter of safely backing up the site, removing the offending Plug-In, replacing it, setting it up, test, test & test again!

All done in 2 hours flat, another happy customer.

Now, time to update my own website, as I’m extending the opening hours to 5:30 pm, due to customer demand. Then it’s off to Google, Bing & Apple Maps to inform them of the new times.

Then I’ll have just enough time to get some scheduled maintenance done on the other websites that I look after. A lot of it is done automatically, but I also like to do a thorough check-up of each website and a complete backup manually too, every month, to be archived securely off & on-line.

Now the websites are nicely updated, time for a coffee!
