If you’re looking for plans on Friday, 29 May, there is only one place to be. Our local legends at Newtown Amateur Boxing Club are taking over the Elephant & Castle for their annual showcase, and it’s set to be a massive night for the community.
Supporting local talent with Newtown printing
As a trusted provider of Newtown printing services, Bluesdigital is always buzzing to help local clubs get the word out. Newtown ABC does a fantastic job providing a space for local talent to train, stay disciplined, and build confidence, and these annual shows are always a highlight of the local calendar.
We’ve been busy in the shop getting their event kit ring-ready:
Event Posters: Keep an eye out for these around town—they’ve got all the details you need for the night.
Match Tickets: Put them somewhere safe, crisp, professional tickets, ready for a packed house at the hotel.
Proud to be cheering on from the corner
We love seeing local clubs thrive. There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere of a boxing show in a local venue—the energy is high, the crowd is loud, and the talent on display is top-tier.
It’s a privilege to be trusted for printing in Newtown by organisations that do so much for the community; after all, when a club works this hard in the gym, they deserve an event that looks every bit as professional as their footwork.
Organising a local showcase? Here are a few quick answers to common questions about getting your Newtown printing sorted.
Where can I get event tickets printed in Newtown?
Bluesdigital specialises in high-quality, professional event tickets. For the Newtown ABC show, we provided numbered, durable tickets that help make gate management at the Elephant & Castle nice and straightforward.
What is the best size for local event posters?
For most Newtown shop windows, cafés, and pub noticeboards, A3 is usually the sweet spot. It’s large enough to catch attention while still being easy for local businesses to display.
Can you handle quick-turnaround printing in Newtown?
Yes! We know event details can change at the last minute. Because we handle our Newtown printing locally, we can often turn around posters and tickets much faster than large online-only companies. If you’re in a rush, give us a shout.
Morning, Newtown! As a web designer in Newtown, I chat with local business owners and communities all the time who are taking on their own websites. And fair play—WordPress is a brilliant platform. But without a bit of guidance, it can feel like wandering around without a map.
If you’re currently sat at your kitchen table with three empty mugs of coffee, staring at a WordPress dashboard and wondering why that “simple” button won’t go where you want it to—take a breath. You’re not alone.
So, to help keep your sanity (and your caffeine levels) intact, here are a few tips to make your DIY WordPress journey a whole lot smoother.
1. Don’t hoard plugins 📦
Think of plugins like apps on your phone. They’re great—but too many and things start to slow down. Only keep what you actually need. If you’re not using it, lose it. Your site will be quicker, cleaner, and more secure.
2. Think mobile first 📱
Give your site a proper check on your phone (go on, I’ll wait). Most people will find you while scrolling. If text is tiny or buttons are fiddly, they’ll bounce. Always preview and tweak the mobile version as you go.
3. Image size matters 📸
One of the biggest culprits for slow websites? Oversized images straight from a camera or phone. They’ll drag your load times right down.
We useAdobe tools to prep images so they stay sharp without slowing things down. Even basic compression makes a big difference—and your visitors (and Google) will notice.
4. Keep everything updated 🔄
That little red notification badge isn’t just decoration. Updates keep your site secure and running smoothly. Just make sure you’ve got a backup in place before clicking update—better safe than sorry.
5. Keep it local 📍
If you’re trying to reach customers nearby, make it obvious where you are. Mention “Newtown” and “Powys” naturally across your site—especially on your contact page. It helps search engines connect you with the right people.
If you want to dig a bit deeper into how this works, Google Search Central has some solid, no-nonsense guidance on improving your local visibility.
Feeling a bit stuck? 🛠️
Building a website is a bit like redoing your kitchen.
Maybe you’re more than happy choosing colours, painting walls, and putting things together yourself—and that’s half the fun.
But when it comes to something like installing the gas cooker… that’s usually when you call someone in.
Web design’s no different. If you’ve hit that stage where things are getting a bit technical or frustrating, you don’t have to wrestle with it alone. Whether you need a full build or a little help finishing things off, we’re here to lend a hand.
Pop in or drop me a message—always happy to help out where we can 👍
Web Designer Newtown – FAQs
If you’re still weighing things up, here are a few common questions people ask when they’re building or improving their website.
How much does a website cost in Newtown?
It depends on what you need. A simple brochure-style site is very different from something more bespoke. We’re always happy to have a quick chat and give you a clear idea—no jargon, no pressure.
Can I build my own WordPress website?
Absolutely—and plenty of people do. WordPress is a great platform. The challenge is usually getting everything working together smoothly (design, speed, mobile, security). If you enjoy it, great. If not, that’s where we can step in.
Do I need a local web designer in Newtown?
You don’t have to, but it helps. Working with a web designer in Newtown means easier conversations, local understanding, and someone who gets your market.
Will my website work on mobile phones?
It should—and it needs to. Most visitors will find you on mobile first, so every site should be designed and tested for it.
Can you help fix or improve my existing website?
Yes. Often a site just needs a tidy-up, performance improvements, or design tweaks rather than a full rebuild. We can take a look and advise.
Do you offer ongoing support after launch?
We do. Whether it’s updates, small changes, or advice, we’re here if you need us—no complicated contracts.
How long does a website take to build?
Usually a few weeks for a small business site, depending on content and complexity. We’ll always be upfront about timelines.
How do I get started?
Just get in touch. We’ll have a quick, friendly chat about what you need and point you in the right direction 👍

💡 Printing Tips for Local Events
A few quick things we’re often asked when people are planning posters or flyers:
Keep it simple – one clear message works better than overcrowding a design
Think distance – posters need bigger fonts than you think to be readable at a glance
Include the basics – what, where, when, and how to find more info
Use QR codes – great for linking to websites or booking pages without cluttering the design
Print early – last-minute printing is fine, but planning ahead always gives more flexibility
❓ Quick FAQs about our printing

We had a lovely call from a charity team over in Cardiff, out doing important work and spreading awareness. They were looking for Newtown Printers, and we are so glad they found us.
One of their reps had a bit of a nightmare moment. His official T-shirt had been left behind… and with a 3-hour round trip, there was no easy fix.
Situations like that can really knock the flow of a good day, especially when you’re out representing something that matters.
Thankfully, some quick thinking on their part and a bit of teamwork saved the day 🙌 We were able to quickly print their logo onto iron-on transfer paper. As a result, a fresh shirt could be sorted in minutes.
From first call to finished print: about 5 minutes.
Big shoutout to Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice and the team behind it—providing vital care and support for children with life-limiting conditions. They also help their families across Wales. Hope the rest of the day went smoothly! If you get the chance, do have a look and find out more here: https://www.tyhafan.org/
Transfer Printing: FAQs & Helpful Tips
Frequently Asked Questions
What is iron-on transfer printing? It’s a quick and flexible way to apply a printed design onto fabric using heat. Ideal for one-off items, last-minute events, or small runs where speed matters.
How durable are transfer prints? When applied properly, they can hold up well for occasional use. For best results, wash inside out at lower temperatures and avoid tumble drying where possible.
Can I use any type of fabric? Cotton works best, but many blends are suitable too. Smooth, fabrics tend to give the sharpest results.
Is this suitable for business or event branding? Absolutely—especially for short notice jobs, temporary events, or when you only need a small number of items quickly.
How fast can you turn these around? In many cases, designs can be printed and ready within minutes—perfect for those “we need it now” situations.
Choosing the Right Transfer Paper & Printing at Home
What’s the best transfer paper to use?
It depends on your fabric and printer:
Light fabric transfer paper – Best for white or pale garments, gives a softer, more natural finish.
Dark fabric transfer paper – Designed for darker materials, with a more opaque backing so colours stay vibrant.
Inkjet vs laser paper – Make sure you match the paper to your printer type—using the wrong one won’t transfer properly.
For most quick jobs, a good quality inkjet transfer paper paired with a standard cotton T-shirt works really well.
Transfer Paper We Recommend
If you’d like our recommendations for transfer paper, here are a few options we rate. They’re affiliate links, so it won’t cost you anything extra, but we may earn a small commission if you decide to use them—appreciate the support if you do 👍
PPD Iron on Transfer Paper for Inkjet Printer for Light Fabric
Yes—you can absolutely use a standard inkjet printer for transfer printing at home.
That said, a few things to keep in mind:
Print quality and colour accuracy can vary compared to professional setups
Household irons work well, but heat presses give more consistent results
It may take a bit of trial and error to get pressure and timing right, so use an old shirt for a few practice runs.
For one-offs or quick fixes, home printing is great. For anything more important (events, branding, business use), it’s often worth getting it done properly.
Caring for Transfer Prints (and washing at lower temperatures)
To help printed designs last longer, especially iron-on transfers, it’s worth being a bit mindful when washing:
Wash garments inside out
Stick to 30°C or lower where possible
Avoid heavy tumble drying if you can
Don’t iron directly over the printed area
Lower temperature washes are not just better for prints—they also help reduce fabric wear over time and are generally more energy efficient.
Keeping garments fresh at lower temperatures
One concern people often have with cooler washes is hygiene. Modern detergents are usually designed to handle this, but if you want extra reassurance, there are laundry additives that can help.
Products like Dettol Laundry Cleanser are designed to kill bacteria even at lower wash temperatures, making them a popular choice for sportswear, uniforms, and work clothing.
Other similar options exist from major detergent brands too, so it’s really about what fits your routine.
Why this matters for transfer prints
Lower-temperature washing combined with sensible care can help:
Extend the life of the print
Keep colours sharper for longer
Reduce cracking or peeling over time
It’s a simple habit, but it makes a noticeable difference—especially for one-off or short-run garments like the kind we helped with today.
Transfer Printing vs Other Methods
Transfer Printing
✅ Ultra-Fast turnaround (often same-day)
✅ Ideal for one-offs or small batches
✅ Great for urgent situations
⚠️ Slightly less durable than some methods
Vinyl Printing
✅ Very durable and long-lasting
✅ Great for names, numbers, simple designs
⚠️ Less suited to detailed or multi-colour artwork
Screen Printing
✅ Best for bulk orders
✅ High durability and professional finish
⚠️ Setup time makes it less suitable for small or urgent jobs
So, which should you choose?
If you need something fast, flexible, and cost-effective, transfer printing is often the best option—especially for last-minute situations.
And if you’re ever unsure, that’s where working with experienced Newtown printers can save a lot of trial and error. We’re always happy to point you in the right direction, whether you’re printing at home or need a quick turnaround locally.
We’ve always taken an honest, practical approach to website design in Newtown—local, approachable, and focused on building websites that actually work for your business. No fluff. No unnecessary tech talk. Just solid websites that do their job.
If you know Bluesdigital, you know we’ve never been about jargon or overcomplicating things.
Like the web itself, things evolve—and so have we.
From Adobe Muse to WordPress: How Our Approach Evolved
A number of years ago, we hit a turning point in how we built websites.
At the time, we were working across a mix of tools—primarily Adobe Muse, along with Adobe Dreamweaver and early WordPress builds. It was flexible, but it also meant juggling different systems depending on the project.
When Adobe announced the end-of-life for Muse and confirmed it would no longer be developed or supported, it became clear we needed to streamline and future-proof how we worked.
We already had experience with WordPress, and it was quickly becoming the industry standard—actively developed, widely supported, and far more scalable than the alternatives we were using.
So instead of splitting focus across multiple platforms, we made a deliberate decision to move fully into WordPress.
Now, all of our website design in Newtown is built on WordPress—and it’s been a major step forward.
Why?
Because it gives our clients:
Full ownership of their website
Flexibility to grow over time
A reliable, actively supported platform
What this means for our clients today is simple: the websites we build are built on a platform that’s actively evolving, widely supported, and ready to grow with your business.
Website Design in Newtown: A Real-World SEO Reminder
Good SEO isn’t just about keywords or content—it’s also about making sure search engines can actually access your website.
We were recently reviewing our own site performance at Bluesdigital when we noticed something unusual: our Bing traffic had completely dropped off back in March.
Zero.
After some investigation, we found the cause—a firewall setting had unintentionally blocked Bing from indexing the site. Just one small technical issue, but with a significant impact on visibility.
It’s now been fixed, and like all SEO changes, we’re giving it time to settle. But it’s a useful reminder of something we see often in website design here in Newtown:
👉 A well-built website still needs ongoing technical care to stay visible.
Design, content, and user experience all matter—but if search engines can’t properly access your site, even the best work won’t perform as it should.
Ready to improve your website?
If your current site isn’t bringing in the results it should, you’re planning something new, or you are building your own website and want a little help, we’re here.

An interesting job came into our Newtown workshop last week.
A client had picked up a refurbished Dell Precision 3620 from eBay a couple of years ago to handle his design workload — and to be fair, it was a cracking choice. i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, fast NVMe SSD, and a proper CAD graphics card. Solid bit of kit.
Unfortunately, last week it decided to have a full-on hissy fit and refused to start.
He brought it in for a suss out, and it didn’t take long to find the culprit — a failed motherboard, a common cause of PCs not turning on at this age.
When a Dell PC Won’t Turn On
On paper, replacing a motherboard is a straightforward PC repair. In reality, with older Dell workstations, it’s rarely that simple.
Machines like this often use non-standard components — custom motherboards, specific power supplies — which can make sourcing parts for a 10-year-old system a bit of a nightmare.
A common approach is to rebuild the system into a new chassis with a compatible motherboard, reusing the best components where possible.
So, after backing up the client’s files to keep him moving, I started sourcing parts for a proper repair.
The Problem with Older Computer Repairs
Finding a compatible motherboard was proving difficult.
That’s when something in the corner of the workshop caught my eye…
One of our original Ych Brych builds.
For those who haven’t come across them yet, Ych Brych is our range of hand-built PCs — designed to be powerful, reliable, and easy to repair. Built right here in our workshop, and ready for action.
A Faster PC Repair Solution
Instead of chasing hard-to-find Dell parts, we took a different approach.
We swapped the key components — SSD, graphics card, and memory — from the failed machine into the Ych Brych system.
Same performance. No delays. No waiting for parts.
Sometimes the best PC repair solution isn’t a repair at all — it’s a smarter rebuild.
Back Up and Running in Hours
A couple of hours later, the client was back up and running with a fully working computer — and all his files exactly where he left them.
Low downtime, No stress. Just a practical fix that got the job done quickly.
Repair & reuse at its finest.

At Bluesdigital, we see a wide range of computers come through our workshop. And to be fair, some of the deals our customers find are genuinely brilliant. We love seeing a budget system that punches well above its weight, especially when it’s a Budget Gaming PC built for performance without breaking the bank.
But every now and then… something comes in that looks great on the outside—and tells a very different story once opened.
If you’re ever unsure about a system you’ve bought, you’re always welcome to get in touch for a second opinion. A quick check can save a lot of headaches down the line.
A recent customer brought in a “new” gaming PC that wouldn’t boot. On first glance, it looked the part: sleek case, bright RGB lighting, everything you’d expect from a modern gaming setup.
Inside, though… it was less “custom build” and more creative improvisation.
What We Found Inside
Loose and Misaligned Components The motherboard wasn’t properly secured—missing screws and sitting slightly out of place, to the point where it was actually blocking the rear USB ports. Not exactly plug-and-play.
A Very “Sticky” Storage Solution Two old laptop hard drives and an SSD had been taped together, then attached to an even older drive using insulation tape. It technically held together… but it’s not a method we’d recommend for long-term data safety.
Cable Management (or Lack of It) Rather than being routed neatly, the cables looked like they’d been pushed into the case and the side panel closed with optimism. This kind of setup restricts airflow and can lead to overheating or premature component failure.
If you’ve opened your PC and something doesn’t quite look right, feel free to send us a quick photo or message—we’re happy to take a look and give you an honest opinion.
The Bigger Picture
Situations like this are more common than most people realise.
Some sellers focus on what you can see: a modern case, colourful lighting, and a spec list that sounds impressive. But behind that, there can be older components, rushed assembly, or corners cut during the build process.
To the average buyer, it looks like a bargain. In reality, it can lead to poor performance, reliability issues, or—in this case—a system that doesn’t work at all.
Unfortunately, this particular machine was simply not fit for purpose, and we advised the customer to return it under warranty.
No Judgement—Just Straightforward Advice
If you’ve ever bought something and thought, “This doesn’t feel quite right,” you’re definitely not alone. It happens more often than you’d think.
There’s absolutely no judgement from us—just honest advice and a clear explanation of what’s going on inside your system.
Whether it’s a quick inspection or a full rebuild, we’re here to help you get the performance you actually paid for.

I’m not particularly superstitious, but last Friday (the 13th!) did its best to convert me. It was a day of “hissy fits,” “ghosts in the machine,” and one very loud box of bubble wrap.
Here’s a look at what goes on behind the scenes at Bluesdigital when the universe decides to get glitchy.
08:50 – The “Beasty” Goes Dark
The day started like any other: power on the PC, head for the kettle. But when I returned, my “trusty steed” had the lights on, but nobody was home—no signal, no response, just silence.
With my first client arriving in ten minutes, there was no time for a funeral. I performed a quick “brain transplant” (swapping my main drive into a backup machine) and was ready to go before the doorbell rang.
The Malware Menace
My first job was a virus removal on a nearly new laptop. It’s frustrating because this was entirely avoidable. The original suppliers hadn’t bothered to secure the browser or tighten security settings.
An extra five minutes of setup could have saved the client a lot of stress—and that sinking feeling when a new laptop goes wrong.
The OneDrive “Disappearing Act”
Next, I helped a client who thought they’d lost years of work. In reality, Microsoft OneDrive had performed its classic “sneaky takeover,” moving files from their usual spots into the cloud.
For many people, this causes more confusion than it solves.
Warranty Service, the Bluesdigital Way
A client brought in a 4-month-old Dell Latitude that was being “grumpy” on startup. Diagnosis: a faulty motherboard.
Now, most shops would make you wait weeks for a manufacturer return. We do things differently. We backed up her files, set up a replacement machine, and had her back on the road within the hour.
Tech is too critical to wait weeks for a repair.
Things That Go “Pop” in the Afternoon
Mid-afternoon, my main printer decided to start printing pages of non-descript ranting (very Friday the 13th). A quick reboot and a firm talking-to sorted it out.
Shortly after, a box of bubble wrap left too close to the radiator decided to go “POP” with the volume of a shotgun. I think I’m still jumping at shadows.
The 13-Year-Old Meltdown
The final paid job of the day was a 13-year-old Zoostorm PC. On its 13th birthday, on Friday the 13th, it finally gave up the ghost. It was riddled with the “Wave Browser” malware and fake alerts.
We managed to deep-scan and rescue the critical files, moving them safely to a “sturdy new beast” equipped with Malwarebytes to keep the bugs at bay.
The Verdict
Once the shop doors were locked, I finally diagnosed my own PC—no curses or ghosts—just a failed SSD controller. Whether it’s a hardware failure or a malware attack, technology is unpredictable. But with a solid backup plan and the right setup, even Friday the 13th won’t slow you down for long.
