Behind the Scenes: Professional Banner Printing at Bluesdigital

Ever wondered what goes into turning a simple idea into a large, eye-catching banner that helps a business stand out?

Professional banner printing is about far more than pressing “Print.” When you’re producing graphics that can span several metres, every stage—from design to final export—needs to be carefully planned to ensure crisp images, vibrant colours and a flawless finish.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we prepare a print-ready PVC banner for one of our customers.

From Idea to Print: Our Banner Printing Workflow

1. Planning the Design

Every successful banner starts with a solid layout. Before we bring in the high-resolution artwork, we create an initial design showing the overall look, typography, colours and positioning. This gives our customer a clear visual of the finished banner before production begins.

2. Quick Proofs via WhatsApp

We like to keep things simple by sending design proofs directly through WhatsApp, making it quick and easy for customers to suggest changes, approve artwork and keep projects moving without unnecessary delays. Some of our clients prefer email, and some prefer to pop in and see the process directly on our screen – both work well for us.

3. Preparing the Print Layout

Once the design has been approved, we build the production file ready for banner printing.

Using professional page-layout software, we carefully calculate bleed areas, safe margins, eyelet positions and trimming allowances so everything lines up perfectly once the banner reaches the printer.

4. Preparing High-Resolution Artwork

Large-format printing demands high-quality images.

Photographs are professionally edited and colour-corrected before being linked into the main artwork, while logos and graphics remain as crisp vector artwork wherever possible. This ensures sharp results even when the finished banner is several metres wide.

5. Creating the Print-Ready File

Before production, we carry out final checks to make sure colours, images, fonts and bleed settings are all correct.

The finished artwork is then exported as a high-quality, print-ready PDF for large-format banner printing equipment.

6. Giving the Computer a Well-Earned Rest!

Working with huge artwork files and high-resolution images can put even powerful computers through their paces.

Once everything has been exported successfully, closing the design software is the moment the workstation finally gets a chance to catch its breath!

  • Built to Last – Heavy-duty PVC banners printed with durable, fade-resistant inks designed for British weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

What resolution should photos be for banner printing?

Because large banners are usually viewed from a distance, around 150 DPI at full finished size is typically ideal. Smaller signs designed for close viewing often benefit from 300 DPI for maximum sharpness.

How long does a PVC banner last outdoors?

A professionally produced PVC banner printed with UV-resistant inks will typically last between three and five years outdoors, depending on its location and weather exposure.

Can you design a banner if I only have an idea?

Absolutely.

Whether you already have finished branding or just a rough sketch, we can create the design, send proofs directly to your phone and prepare everything ready for professional banner printing.
