Fair organ reaches new charity milestone

A fair organ from Newtown that travels around the country raising money for a end of life care charity has reached a new milestone.

George Morgan and his Dean 30 keyless fair organ Ruby have raised a remarkable £31,707.57 for Marie Curie by entertaining the crowds at many popular events across Powys and beyond since 1996.

But in 2023, George and Ruby managed to break the £2,000 fundraising barrier during one year for the first time in almost 30 years. The collections were taken over 39 days at 25 different venues.

George recently presented a cheque for £2,218.88 to members of the Newtown branch of Marie Curie to help support them in their valuable caring role in the community.

Since his wife Dorothy died in 2021, after being married for nearly 62 years, George continues to feel “completely lost”.

Over the years the couple attended many steam and vintage rallies, agricultural and village shows, family parties and Christmas festivities covering most of Wales and the border counties.

The organ is professionally serviced and regularly tuned to keep it in tip top condition by George who remains a dedicated member of the Fair Organ Preservation Society.

George added that he wishes to express his sincere thanks to everyone for their continued support since 1996.
